Course overview

Management accounting is an effective tool for in providing information that is useful indecision making at all levels of the organization. Management Accounting for the public sector seeks to create value for ministries, parastatals and other public sector institutions by managing activities, financial and human resources to achieve their goals.

Course objectives

This course is aimed at enabling participants to:

  • Recognize and appreciate the importance of management accounting in organizations especially in the public sector
  • Learn the tools and techniques specific to management accounting
  • Identify characteristics and behavior of different types of costs and analyse decisions that influence these costs
  • Understand the application context of the various cost accounting systems
  • Appreciate the importance of activity based costing in the evaluation of performance of public sector organizations
  • Understand and clearly explain decentralization and identify responsibility centres and various types of transfer prices.
